Garmin Forerunner 570 – 47mm sports watch test – Zerge's verdict
Zerge's honest opinion on the Garmin Forerunner 570 – 47mm.
Who is it for?
The Garmin Forerunner 570 47mm is built for men who train seriously – whether that's running, cycling or triathlon – and expect their watch to hold its own as a smartwatch too. The larger case is an advantage here: slightly better battery life and a bigger display that's easier to read mid-effort.
It is the direct successor to the Forerunner 265, and brings meaningful upgrades: a speaker, microphone, Gen5 heart rate sensor, skin temperature tracking and a wide range of new sport profiles. The price went up at launch – €549 is a serious sum, especially without offline maps. Since its 2025 release however it has dropped in price twice, which puts it in a very different light today.
If you are considering the Forerunner 970 alongside it: that adds maps, an LED flashlight, sapphire glass and a titanium bezel – but at a significantly higher price. The 570 47mm is the ideal choice for someone who wants reliable training support, smartwatch features and solid battery life, and trains on their own familiar routes.

What you'll love about the Garmin Forerunner 570 – 47mm
- The 47mm case and 50g weight sit naturally on a male wrist – not too large, not too light. The aluminium bezel and Gorilla Glass 3 give it a solid, premium feel that holds up well to daily wear.
- The 11-day battery in smartwatch mode means you won't be hunting for a charger after a long weekend of racing or a multi-day adventure. GPS mode gives you 18 hours – enough for an ultramarathon or a long-distance triathlon.
- The built-in speaker and microphone let you take calls while running or cycling without stopping or reaching for your phone. A small thing – but once you've used it, it's hard to go back.
- Garmin Coach Triathlon plans are now available on this model: a fully adaptive training plan that monitors your load, sleep and stress and adjusts accordingly. Previously this level of triathlon coaching was reserved for higher-end Garmin watches.
- The Gen5 heart rate sensor is noticeably more accurate in the cold, during interval sessions and running downhill – exactly the situations where the Gen4 occasionally lost track. Skin temperature monitoring runs quietly in the background overnight.
- The Evening Report shows you before bed how much sleep you need, what's on the training schedule tomorrow and what the weather looks like. A small feature, but remarkably useful for planning early morning sessions.
- More than 80 sport profiles, including triathlon, pool triathlon, duathlon, gravel bike, cycling tour, mountaineering, kayak and golf – plus structured multisport workouts with transition times that you can now control directly from the watch.
What's missing from the Garmin Forerunner 570 – 47mm
- No offline maps – at €549 this is a hard decision to defend in 2026. Suunto, Polar and Apple Watch all offer maps at a lower price point. Breadcrumb navigation and ClimbPro are there, but if you get lost on unfamiliar terrain, this watch won't find you a way out.
- No ECG app – while Garmin's own Venu 3 includes it at a lower price. The required metal contacts are visibly absent from the back of the watch, so this is a hardware decision rather than a software lock – but it still stings in 2026, when Apple Watch, Samsung and Google Watch all offer it for under €400.
- No LED flashlight – one of the 970's most practical additions, and anyone who has used it on an early morning run in the dark will struggle to call it just an extra. On the 570 it simply isn't there.
- Aluminium bezel instead of titanium – compared to the 970 this will show scratches sooner. For city wear and track training it's probably fine, but those who regularly run on rocky or mountainous terrain will see the signs of wear earlier.
- Only 8GB of storage – the 970 and 965 both get 32GB. For music and apps 8GB is usually sufficient, but anyone downloading large offline playlists and running multiple Connect IQ apps simultaneously may find it tight over time.
- No Stamina or Hill Score – both available on the 965 and 970, but absent here. For ultra runners and mountain terrain in particular, missing the real-time remaining performance indicator is a noticeable gap during long hard efforts.
Summary
The Garmin Forerunner 570 47mm is a seriously capable, all-day sports watch that holds its own both during training and beyond. The speaker, microphone, Evening Report and Gen5 sensor together create a user experience that's hard to put into words – but once you've got used to it, going back feels like a step down.
The watch has dropped in price twice since its 2025 launch, and that changes the equation considerably. What felt expensive at release is now a genuinely strong offer – especially given that the software has only improved since then.
What is truly missing is full offline maps and navigation. On familiar routes and well-known terrain it performs perfectly – but if you need to navigate on unknown ground, this watch won't guide you out. For those who train on their own regular routes however, this limitation rarely comes up in practice: breadcrumb navigation and ClimbPro are more than enough.
If you want reliable training support, smartwatch features, solid battery life and a watch you can take everywhere from running to triathlon, the Forerunner 570 47mm is today a hard watch to argue against. If maps, a flashlight or ECG are non-negotiable for you however, the Forerunner 970 is worth a serious look.
